The use of online learning at the high level is increasing significantly. Science courses being taught using 0nly text-based web pages are not achieving the desired learning result. A way to improve the quantitative (数量的) and qualitative (质量的) learning of high school students taking an online science course needs to be carried out. The problem of this study is to determine whether multi-media instruction will improve the quantitative and qualitative learning of high school students taking an online science course.
A group of high school physics students from a small coastal (海滨的) county in North Carolina were chosen for this experiment. The students were randomly (随机地) divided into two groups. The groups were taught using either the text-based web site or the multi-media based web site. The students were taught the units until they could demonstrate understanding. The students were then given the same tests. The tests were given both a quantitative and a qualitative grade. All four units were tested, and the scores were compared. It -was found that the addition of the multi-media produced no significant increase in the quantitative or qualitative scores of the students. The addition of the multi-media did, however, greatly reduce the time required to teach the unit.
